About the Artist
Living near the ocean in Florida, I find that I paint many seascapes and landscapes. I generally include architectural elements. I have a fascination with bridges, bungalows and boats. It’s something about the geometry of the structure that captures my eye. I am also drawn to portrait painting, which I do on commission.
Another passion is my marbled paperscapes (my own invention, I think). I study the marbled paper and when a shape or line speaks to me, I start cutting. I piece together landscapes, seascapes, even spacescapes. With the addition of a small figure in black silhouette, the scene becomes real.
I began my art studies formally in 2004 in a series of graduate painting classes through Virginia Commonwealth University. I would have to say though that my father was my greatest influence. He taught me to draw and mix colors before I could read. I had some outrageous coloring books. Since I retired from teaching (Spanish not art), I have taken many classes at The Artist Workshop and The Hub on Canal, both in New Smyrna Beach.
